Your first taste of the Rockies will start as you touch down in Calgary. An 80kms drive will take us into the heart of the Rockies an area that is protected by National parks and its world heritage status. You will have 2 main bases for the duration of this challenge. The first being Jasper, a town established in 1813 being named after Jasper Hawkes, who operated a trading post in the region for the North West trading company.
One of the main attractions near Jasper is the UNESCO world heritage site of the Jasper National Park which was established in 1907. It is the largest National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The Park contains some of the most stunning sites within Alberta, including ice fields, glaciers, rivers, lakes and towns. The park is packed full of wildlife, ranging from Caribou, to grizzly bears; coyotes to deer; and black bears to elks.
The second base for your challenge will be Lake Louise. The area was named after Queen Victoria’s daughter Princess Louise Caroline Alberta. With the breath-taking scenery of the Paradise Valley, the name says it all; and the various lakes that you will visit you will be amazed by its beauty.
During this trek you will be walking for between 8-20kms a day, with a total of 95kms walked over the 6 main trekking days. Your camps will have to be set up and you will also have to help prepare camp meals and help with the camp chores.
